Unhappy Video Format not supported by Ipod???

Just purchased dvd to ipod to backup all my kids movies and take them with us. I've tried 4 movies so far and am batting 500. All of the DVD's work in Itunes but when I try to sync two of them come back saying "Movie was not copied because the video format was not supported by the Ipod." What am I missing? Please help!! Thanks!
